Matthew Fortin

Matthew Fortin is a lifelong Pacific Northwesterner who loves to wander the great outdoors in search of sign to track. Drawing from his search and rescue experience in the United States Coast Guard (USCG), and with the Snohomish County Volunteer Search and Rescue (SCVSR), he introduces students to the art of tracking. At first glance, tracking suggests following sign through the natural environment to identify and possibly locate an animal, which is true, but tracking is much more than this. Learning to track trains the mind to engage the landscape in a nuanced and meaningfully detailed way. Each track has a story to tell.
