Fall Stewardship Weekend
Event Details
This year, we’re excited to reintroduce our Stewardship Weekends—a special opportunity for people looking to give back to the beloved North Cascades Environmental Learning Center and the surrounding wildlands! In the spring, a group of volunteers joined us to perform trail maintenance, clear brush in accordance with firewise principles, and beautify campus. This fall we plan to continue this work as well as turn our attention to some new projects. As the larches begin to take on a golden hue and the air crispens into fall, it’s a beautiful time to be in the North Cascades!
Special pricing for college students: $50 per person!
Come with your own group and share a room, or register solo and we'll place you with other college students (typically 2-3 people per room). Students must call for this special pricing: 360-854-2599

We invite you to join Institute staff this spring for a meaningful weekend of tending to the land and caring for the place that means so much to our community. We will have useful projects for all ages and ability levels, including older folks, families with kids, college students and you!

During this specially-priced weekend, participants will work together on a variety of hands-on projects that support native plants and wildlife while also helping care for and beautify our campus. In celebration of the North Cascades Institute’s 40th anniversary, stewardship projects may include spreading fresh gravel and wood chips at our campus gathering places, maintaining our three well-used trail shelters, ensuring our campus is following firewise guidelines, and other ways of sprucing up our campus—each task contributing to the long-term resilience of this special place.

Our shared work will be balanced with the comforts that make time at Diablo Lake so memorable. Our kitchen crew will serve delicious, nourishing meals throughout the weekend, and evenings will feature engaging naturalist activities and campfire conversations. At day’s end, you’ll retire to our comfortable guest lodges with tired muscles, full hearts, and the satisfaction of a job well done.

If you’re looking for a hands-on way to give back to the North Cascades and support the Institute’s conservation and education mission, the Fall Stewardship Weekend may be just what you’re looking for!
