Late summer smoke has become a familiar part of life in Washington, a visible reminder of how a changing climate is reshaping our region. While wildfire brings real challenges, it is also a natural and necessary part of many ecosystems—and learning to live with fire is increasingly important.

Join fire ecologist Susan Prichard for an online class exploring the role of fire in Western Washington landscapes. Drawing on years of research and field experience, Susan will trace how fire has shaped these ecosystems over millennia, the changes that have led to current conditions, and what we might expect in the years ahead.
