What gives a bird its distinctive shape and character—and how do you capture that on the page? From the curve of a wing to the intricate layering of feathers, birds offer endless inspiration for artists and nature lovers alike.

Through guided demonstrations, you’ll learn the basics of bird anatomy and proportion, techniques for rendering different types of feathers, and how to build convincing bird forms using graphite and colored pencil on toned paper. Trenton will share techniques from his own natural science illustration practice, helping you look beyond individual details to understand the underlying structure of a bird and translate what you observe onto the page.

Photo references will be provided during the workshop, and you’re welcome to bring your own favorite bird photographs as well. Whether you’re a birder hoping to add drawing to your observation practice, an artist looking to strengthen your wildlife illustration skills, or simply someone who loves birds, you’ll leave with practical techniques—and a new appreciation for the subtle forms and details of our feathered neighbors.
If you can't make the specific date or time of a class you want to take, you can still register and we will send you a link to view the program on your own time! All registrants will have access to the class recording for a limited time to re-watch too.
All skill levels are welcome.
