What is Base Camp?
Base Camp is your opportunity to stay and play in the heart of North Cascades National Park for overnight learning adventures with meals and accommodations at the North Cascades Environmental Learning Center. Come explore the American Alps while enjoying the comforts of our award-winning campus.

Each night of your stay includes:

Guests enjoy private rooms in our comfortable lodges that feature cozy lounges, wardrobes and desks and shared gender-specific bathrooms
THREE DELICIOUS MEALS
We offer three meals per day, showcasing fresh and flavorful foods with vegetarian options. We accommodate a wide range of dietary needs too! Breakfast and dinner are served buffet-style in the lakeside dining hall. Guests are also provided a sack lunch to take and eat later wherever your adventure takes you!
GUIDED OUTDOOR LEARNING ADVENTURES
Our educational staff offer seasonal explorations of the natural and cultural history of the North Cascades ecosystem. Naturalist-led activities might include
- big canoe voyages on Diablo Lake (weather dependent)
- Larch natural history presentations and viewing tips in October
- plant walks in the woods
- learning about old growth forest on the way to the local waterfall
- arts & crafts
- hiking local trails
- campfires & s’mores
- game nights and social hours in the lounges and the Wild Ginger Library

Institute naturalists offer a daily slate of engaging learning activities.

Spring is a special time at the North Cascades Environmental Learning Center — waterfalls rushing with snowmelt, moss bright with rain, and quiet moments along the shores of Diablo Lake. In celebration of our 40th anniversary, we’re offering 40% off BASE CAMP stays now until Memorial Weekend, inviting more people to experience this peaceful season in the mountains.
Spend a cozy weekend at the Learning Center enjoying simple pleasures like:
• Reading or playing board games in the Wild Ginger Library
• Learning about forest ecology and brewing tea from foraged plants
• Watching and discussing a nature documentary
• Sipping coffee with a view of Diablo Lake
• Wandering moss-covered trails around campus
• Slowing down with mindfulness and moving meditation
• Engaging your creativity with journaling in nature and art projects
• Gathering around an evening campfire with s’mores
Base Camp pricing is determined by how your family or friends group fill a lodge room. All lodge rooms contain 2 bunk sets (4 twin beds).

- 2 People (couple or double accommodations) - $106
- 40th anniversary special price, per person / $177 peak season, per person
- 3 People (triple accommodations) -$78 40th anniversary special price, per person / $130 peak season, per person
- 4 People (quadruple accommodations) -$63.50 40th anniversary special price, per person / $104 peak season, per person
Solo visitors must register for single accommodations as we don't room strangers together. Children under 3 are free. We encourage people to bring their own bedding and towels but have linens for an additional rental fee of $10 per person for the duration of your stay.
