Position Location and Description

The work location for the Program Instructor is at the North Cascades Environmental Learning Center located in the heart of the North Cascades National Park on the shore of Diablo Lake.

From February through early-June, Mountain School—an overnight environmental education program for local 5th graders—will be your focus.

In the summer, mid-June thru early-September, you will work in a variety of fun educational programs at the Learning Center:

  • Family Getaways: Instructors help host summer camp for families and friends, teaching a variety of engaging activities for all ages including  day hikes, nature-based activities, natural history lessons, paddling in our big canoes, and campfire programs.
  • Conferences & Retreats: Instructors support this program area by teaching short programs, leading canoe outings, and engaging with guests to help the Institute reach a broader audience. Groups hosted range from medical training to scientific conferences to family reunions.
  • Base Camps: Instructors host and teach short programs throughout educational weekend retreats for individuals, families, or anyone who wants to learn about and explore the North Cascades.

If you have relevant qualifications and experience, you may have the opportunity to join our summer season of Youth Leadership Adventures, guiding teens on remote backcountry excursions. There are limited positions available in this program area.

In September, Mountain School resumes and continues to mid-December.
