Seasonal Positions Information

North Cascades Institute hires many seasonal Instructor positions each year.  Here are brief descriptions of the positions. More details can be found in the Job Announcements that are posted at the approximate dates below on our Job Board portal.   

Assistant Program Instructor
This position is designed for people who love Nature and are relatively new to the field of environmental education. This supportive position helps in any of the programs located at the Environmental Learning Center on Diablo Lake. Our goal is to provide a system of training, coaching, support, and experience that helps staff along their career paths towards a career in environmental education, conservation, or related fields. Diversity is valued here.

Adult and Family Instructor
This Instructor works various programs located at the Environmental Learning Center on Diablo Lake as well as for field courses in Whatcom or Skagit counties. This staff spends more time with adults than youth and has an active role in working with participants. You belong here!

Base Camp Instructor
This position is located at the Environmental Learning Center on Diablo Lake. Staff may lead orientation, help participants find their way around campus and host small group programs based on public health guidelines. We hope to have candidates from all walks of life applying for this job.

Family Getaways Instructor
This position is located at the Environmental Learning Center on Diablo Lake. This staff spends time with families of all ages, ranging from infant to elder. Staff prepare, lead and evaluate activities for small groups based on public health guidelines. We are looking for candidates who have a passion for bridging generational gaps and practices principles of respect towards all beings.

Youth Leadership Adventures Field Instructors
This position is based out of theEnvironmental Learning Center but will spend a significant portion of their employment in the field.  Field instructors lead high school students on 8- and 12-day backcountry courses focused on outdoor skills, community and leadership development, natural and cultural history of the North Cascades ecosystem and climate change education.  We seek to hire experienced backcountry instructors that are representative of or committed to supporting the diverse student population that we support on our trips.

Youth Leadership Adventures Internship: This position is based out of theEnvironmental Learning Center but will spend a significant portion of their employment in the field. Interns are interested in developing their environmental education and outdoor leadership skills and assist field instructors in leading 8- and 12-day backcountry courses. This introductory position is designed to provide job training as well as practical application of learned skills. We seek to hire interns that have been alumni of our Youth Leadership Adventure program (or similar programs) or are excited to gain hands on experience in environmental and outdoor education. Interns must be at least 18 years old, have received a high school diploma, GED or similar certification, have completed one year of college-level coursework and be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate college or university.
