Field Instructors:

Our field instructors lead high school students on 8- and 12-day backcountry courses focused on outdoor skills, community and leadership development, natural and cultural history of the North Cascades ecosystem and climate change education.  We seek to hire experienced backcountry instructors that are representative of or committed to supporting the diverse student population that we support on our trips.  

Hiring Timeline:

Applications for the Summer 2020 season open Feb 14, 2020 and will close on March 13.

Interviewing begins the week of March 23, work offers announced early April

Season runs June 9 - August 29 or June 9 - July 31 

Internship:

UNFORTUNATELY, DUE TO UNCERTAINTY ABOUT HOW COVID-19 WILL AFFECT OUR SUMMER PROGRAMMING, WE HAVE MADE THE DIFFICULT DECISION TO CANCEL THE YLA INTERNSHIP FOR SUMMER 2020.  WE PLAN TO OFFER THE INTERNSHIP FOR SUMMER 2021, SO CHECK BACK HERE NEXT SPRING FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Our interns are interested in developing their environmental education and outdoor leadership skills and assist field instructors in leading 8- and 12-day backcountry courses. This introductory position is designed to provide job training as well as practical application of learned skills. We seek to hire interns that have been alumni of our Youth Leadership Adventure program (or similar programs) or are excited to gain hands on experience in environmental and outdoor education.   

Interns must be at least 18 years old, have received a high school diploma, GED or similar certification, have completed one year of college-level coursework and be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate college or university.
