YLA Field Instructors

Our field instructors lead high school students on 9-day backcountry courses focused on outdoor skills, community and leadership development, natural and cultural history of the North Cascades ecosystem, and climate change education.  We seek to hire experienced backcountry instructors that are representative of or committed to supporting the diverse student population that we support on our trips.  

Positions are paid $150-175 / field day, depending on experience.


Youth Leadership Adventures 2022 season runs June 6 - August 30.

YLA Interns

**YLA internships are canceled for summer 2022 

Our interns are interested in developing their environmental education and outdoor leadership skills and assist field instructors in leading 8- and 12-day backcountry courses. This introductory position is designed to provide job training as well as practical application of learned skills. We seek to hire interns that have been alumni of our Youth Leadership Adventure program (or similar programs) or are excited to gain hands on experience in environmental and outdoor education.   

Interns must be at least 18 years old, have received a high school diploma, GED or similar certification, have completed one year of college-level coursework and be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate college or university. 

Applications typically open in late March. YLA seasons typically start early June and run through the end of August (with some flexibility for start/end date based on class schedule).
