What is the subjective experience of being in an old growth forest? How do we respond to these ancient survivors? Molly Hashimoto will teach us how to answer these questions with the versatile power of watercolors. Molly has been teaching, writing and making art about the American west for decades.

At Rockport State Park, where some of the trees are over 250 feet tall, she'll teach us how to mix and express the multitude of greens, to create the textures of immense trunks and to highlight the delicacy of bright understory plants like vine maples and sword ferns. She'll show us how to suggest the airy canopies of hemlocks, firs and cedars, and how to fill them with the palpable deep forest light.

This is a full day of plein air painting instruction at Rockport State Park -- about 35 miles east of Burlington on State Route 20 -- and will include demonstrations, handouts and ample time to draw and paint, as well as a time to share work. Be ready for learning and working out of doors! A supply list will be given well ahead of the class.
