Chasing Butterflies in the North Cascades
Event Details
There is so much more to butterflies than meets the eye! Join David Droppers as we’ll travel from low in the Methow Valley to high in the North Cascades, survey for butterflies of different habitats and seasons. David has put his expertise and enthusiasm to work for the National Park Service, US Forest Service, University of Washington, and Woodland Park Zoo and we're thrilled for his first field excursion with us!
From dry ponderosa forests to subalpine meadows, expect to find a kaleidoscope of butterflies, while learning of their fascinating life histories, as well as the ecology of butterflies in Washington.
We’ll use nets to restrain the butterflies for close examination and photographs, which will then be released unharmed. Light trail travel is to be expected, how fast you chase the butterflies is up to you. Backup plans in case of bad weather include looking at specimens and searching for caterpillars!
