Lichen can be found on every corner of the earth, from the poles to the tropics. They are fascinating organisms with many properties, such as, food, medicine, and dye. Learn how to create luminescent colors from common tree and ground lichens that can be used to dye wool for knitting, felting, and other hand crafts.

In the class we will be learning how to identify varieties of lichen in the Pacific Northwest. We will begin by talking about the magnificent world of lichen, then take a walk around the forest and looking at a few varieties, followed by a session on how to dye wool with lichen.

If you are interested in dyeing some of your own wool or woolen clothes to take home, please feel free to bring them to the class.
