Development Associate

We’re looking for someone who wants to work, learn and grow while supporting the mission of one of the Northwest’s exemplary nonprofit conservation organizations. The Development Associate has primary responsibility for providing a full range of high-level administrative support for the Director of Development and Marketing, Executive Director, Board of Directors and those involved in fundraising efforts. The Development Associate will support all development and fundraising activities to build support for North Cascades Institute’s mission and programs and he or she will provide administrative and logistical support for all activities of its development program, including prospect identification and tracking, donor cultivation, fund acquisition and events. Successful applicants will have excellent communications skills and the ability to prioritize, organize, and complete work assignments efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision. Functioning as part of a six-person team, the Development Associate role requires flexibility, accountability, enthusiasm, and sharp attention to detail. This position has the potential for growth.

Responsibilities
- Individual Donor Relations 
Provide systems and tools for staff and board to use in cultivating, soliciting and maintaining relationships with donors and stakeholders in order to meet annual goals. Coordinate case load of donor relationships for executive staff; schedule donor calls and visits for senior staff and board members; participate in direct asks and follow up. Organize meetings, conduct donor research and coordinate prospect visits and donor events. Prepare materials for development-related meetings, calls and presentations, including sponsorship packages and solicitation letters. Track and support with follow-up other fund-raising appointments, including thank yous, mailings, reminder phone calls. Coordinate production and mailing of annual appeals for support, including drafting letters, proposals and cultivation pieces. Maintain and grow monthly donor program. 

- Administration
Provide administrative and clerical support for Director of Development and Marketing. Manage and report on stakeholder relations and coordinate staff’s stakeholder relations case loads. Organize meetings, conduct donor research and coordinate prospect visits and donor events.

- Data Management
Manage and oversee proper utilization of the donor database (Salesforce). Coordinate the use and maintenance of donor records and reports; provide training for those who use the fundraising database. Produce donation reports, create custom donor and financial reports, track fund development income and ensure accurate processing and timely acknowledgement of all gifts. 

- Community Outreach
Coordinate and assist in the production of community outreach events, including promotions, marketing, sponsorships, logistics, venue relations, and ticket sales as appropriate. Coordinate administrative tasks associated with the membership program including processing and tracking memberships. Train retail store staff and others in membership sales. Grow membership program revenue.

- Other 
Other tasks and duties as assigned by Director of Development and Marketing or Executive Director, which might include assisting with submission of grant proposals, communication with planning giving donors (Headwaters Club), workplace giving activities.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, communications, business or related field. One to two years of development or non-profit experience
- Knowledge/proficiency with fundraising databases (preferably Salesforce) and Microsoft office
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to produce accurate work with close attention to detail
- Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image when giving and taking information in writing, in person, and over the phone
- Demonstrated ability to move from task to task with frequent interruptions
- The ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding donor relations issues and other sensitive matters
- Ability to work independently and be self-directed, while also able to collaboratively work within a team environment
- Available for occasional weekend and evening work
- Passion for the Institute’s mission to conserve and restore Northwest environments through education 
- Valid driver’s license at time of hire; acceptable driving record for the past three years
- A pre-employment or post-hire background screening and criminal history check

Compensation: This is a regular, full-time, non-exempt position. The wage is $15.00-16.00 per hour. Benefits include paid time off, medical/dental insurance, tax-defined annuity and contribution retirement plan, and a yearly stipend to participate in Institute programs.
